I personally have 5 pairs of loppers, but for your average gardener, loppers are necessary for hardwood. Hardwood are the branches of shrubs and trees greater than 1/4″, and no bigger than 1 1/2″ depending on the lopper. It’s like your stronger and longer pruner that will help you cut branches with two handed power.
