Favourite Plants AtoZ: Fern

Ferns smell! It’s true, but I still love a fern. From the hardy polypody to the more tender painted Japanese painted, ferns are a great choice in shade infested spots. This natural forest plant is nourishing in it’s fiddle head phase, and very easy to care for. The more native varieties (See Ontario Fern Site) can be very aggressive, so make sure you know what you are planting. Often used like a groundcover in large shady spaces, this hardy perennial can easily be divided and transplanted. A great plant to share!
