Oh the wonderful shade loving Hosta plant.Fragrant Boquest Known as a plantain lily, this hardy perennial does wonders for any shade garden and some varieties will tolerate a reasonable amount of sun. Whether you want a subtle ground cover or a large specimen plant, there is a Hosta variety that fits the theme. When picking your Hosta plant, it is important to know that the “blue” hosta tends to prefer shade, as it has a wax like coating to protect the leaves, and too much sun can melt away this protectant, leaving the plant vulnerable. The greener and yellow varieties tend to tolerate sun well, and can even flourish in full sun. Remember to check the plants tags before choosing the best Hosta for your location. Note that Hosta can tend to get infested by slugs in high moisture areas, so don’t over water these normally hardy perennials. The choices and varieties are endless!
