There are so many choices when it comes to ornamental grass these days. Karl FoersterVertical grass like this feather reed variety offers height, privacy, specimen and , winter show. It is fast growing and a hardy perennial that can thrive in as cold as a zone 3 climate. Whether you plant is as a specimen, clump them together, or create a soft hedge,  Karl Foerster grass can work in any style garden you want to create. While most ornamental grass thrives on full sun, this up to 4 foot high variety can endure the shade of a north facing garden, but it may not grow to its maximum expectations.
